CHRISTOPH. SWISS ROASTING CHAMPION 2026.

From barista at Goldbrunnenplatz to Swiss Roasting Champion and World Championship competitor in Brussels.

("I like it clean and simple.")

«Ich hans gern fein.»

For over ten years, Christoph Meier has shaped ViCAFE's coffee culture, today as Roaster and Senior Specialist Quality Management.

In November 2025, he won the title of Swiss Roasting Champion. The challenge: develop a blend from three given green coffees, aiming for maximum complexity and balance, all under strict time pressure. His standard: doing justice to the entire value chain, from the plant to the cup.

A personal choice, a personal roast.

CHRISTOPH'S SELECTION

This is a coffee Christoph has known for a long time, and one he's never let go of. Sourced directly from the Harries family (Boyce and Georgina) at the Chania & Oreti Estates in Thika, Kenya, grown in the shade of grevillea trees on volcanic soil, at 1,500 to 1,650 metres above sea level.

Fully washed, AA / AB grade, light to medium roast, with notes of rhubarb, dried fruit and caramel in the cup. Versatile in use: as espresso as much as pour-over.

Dedicated to the World Coffee Roasting Championship 2026 in Brussels.

Christoph roasts his way into the world's top 15

Three days, 30 roasters from around the world, two disciplines: single origin in 30 minutes, blend in 60 minutes.

Christoph chose a Tanzania Natural as the heart of his competition blend, complemented with coffees from Peru, Ecuador and Nicaragua. The result: 14th place out of 30, the upper half of the international field, and no shortage of stories along the way, from a dead e-bike battery in the middle of Brussels to a nerve-wracking final roast on the big stage.

FAQs

Specialty Coffee refers to coffee of the highest quality tier, from green bean selection to roasting. At ViCAFE, the term stands for traceability, careful processing and a flavour that reflects the coffee's origin.

All participants receive the same green coffees and develop their own blend under time pressure. Judging covers the roast plan, precision and the sensory result in the cup.

The championship brings together national roasting champions from around the world. In a limited time, they develop their own competition blend and a single origin, both judged by an international panel.

A single origin comes from a single region or a single farm. A blend combines several origins into one balanced flavour profile.
